GCSE November Resits 2026 — Maths and English Language Only

Quick answer

Nexus Academy prepares students for the November 2026 GCSE series, which covers Maths and English Language only. AQA’s confirmed papers run from 3 to 9 November 2026 in the morning. Every other GCSE, and all A Levels, wait until summer 2027. Entries go through a school or exam centre; tutoring is from £14/hr with a free first session.

After Thursday 20 August 2026, the question in most UK kitchens is not “is Edexcel harder than AQA?” It is whether a 3 in Maths or English Language can be moved before sixth form settles. The autumn series exists for that — and only that.

The Joint Council for Qualifications runs a November GCSE series. In 2026 the live subjects are Maths and English Language. Nexus Academy is a tutoring company, not an exam centre: we match a UK-qualified tutor to the specification your child will sit, and we do not submit entries. Confirm the entry with the exams officer this week, then use the weeks you have.

Do this week

  1. Email or call the exams officer: confirm Maths and/or English Language, board, tier, and the centre’s internal entry deadline (always earlier than the board date).
  2. If you are not on a school or college roll, find an approved centre that takes private candidates before you book tutoring.
  3. Put the paper mornings in the family calendar — see the AQA grid below — then book a free diagnostic so the eight weeks attack the leaked topics, not a generic workbook.

Who can sit — and who cannot

In practice, most November sitters are Year 12 students whose college or sixth form enters them because they have not yet got a grade 4. AQA’s timetable notes that some November components are available only to candidates aged 16 or over on 31 August 2026. If your child is still in Year 11, do not assume they can walk into the autumn series — the centre decides.

Private candidates can sit if a local centre accepts external entries. Fees, photo ID rules and late-entry charges are the centre’s, not Nexus Academy’s. Find the centre first. We tutor the board they name.

Usually yes. Post-16 student without a 4 in Maths or English Language; the sixth form or college is entering them; or a private candidate a centre has already accepted.

Usually no. A Level resits (summer only); English Literature, sciences or any other GCSE; a Year 11 student the centre will not enter; anyone who has not been entered by the internal deadline.

Why a 4 is the line — and what tutoring can do in eight weeks

In England a grade 4 is the standard pass that clears the Department for Education’s 16 to 19 maths and English condition of funding. Students with a 3 must keep working towards GCSE; students with a 2 or below may work towards GCSE or Functional Skills Level 2. That is policy for institutions, not a parenting slogan — and it is why November exists. Why grade 4 matters sets the funding rule out in plain English.

Eight weeks is enough when the summer paper leaked marks on a handful of topics or on exam timing. It is not enough to rebuild two years of Foundation content from a grade 1. Be honest in the diagnostic. The Maths resit plan and the English Language resit guide show how Nexus Academy uses those weeks. If you are torn between rushing autumn and waiting for June, read November or June.

After January results

November results are issued in January 2027 on a JCQ common date your centre will confirm. A 4 ends the funding problem for that subject. Another 3 does not — the college keeps the student on GCSE, and you plan June. Nexus Academy can hold the weekly slot through the spring rather than restarting from a cold start in May.

Frequently asked questions

Which GCSEs can you resit in November 2026?

You can resit GCSE Maths and GCSE English Language in the November 2026 series; Nexus Academy tutors those two subjects for the autumn sitting. English Literature, the sciences, humanities and every other GCSE wait until the summer 2027 series. A Levels have no autumn resit.

When are the November 2026 GCSE exams?

AQA’s confirmed November 2026 timetable places English Language Paper 1 on Tuesday 3 November, Maths Paper 1 on Wednesday 4 November, English Language Paper 2 on Thursday 5 November, Maths Paper 2 on Friday 6 November and Maths Paper 3 on Monday 9 November, all in the morning. Pearson Edexcel and OCR follow the same JCQ window — confirm your child’s exact codes with the exams officer.

How do I enter my child for a November GCSE resit?

Entries are made by a school, college or approved exam centre, not by Nexus Academy. Ask the exams officer now: centres set internal deadlines earlier than the board date. Nexus Academy matches a tutor to the board you will sit and prepares the papers — we cannot submit an entry.

When do November 2026 GCSE resit results come out?

November series results are issued in January 2027. JCQ sets a common date across boards; your centre will confirm it. Nexus Academy can keep weekly Maths or English Language sessions going if the January grade is still short of a 4, through to the summer series.

Can a private candidate sit a November GCSE resit?

A private candidate can sit a November GCSE resit if an approved centre accepts an external entry; Nexus Academy does not enter candidates, collect fees, or guarantee a local centre. Find the centre first, then we tutor the board they name from £14/hr after a free diagnostic.
